People are more mindful than ever when it comes to choosing the foods they enjoy as part of a balanced lifestyle. Today’s consumers want to know more about their food and want to understand where it fits in their lives.
That’s why America’s leading chocolate and candy companies have come together to spearhead the Always A Treat Initiative—a five-year commitment with the Partnership for a Healthier America to provide consumers with information, options and support as they enjoy their favorite treats. In the next few years, consumers will see more options in smaller pack sizes—and innovative new products—as we continue our journey to help people manage their sugar intake.
Most people in the U.S. enjoy chocolate and candy 2-3 times per week, averaging about 40 calories and one teaspoon of added sugar per day. Chocolate and candy companies have always created transparent, fun, and great-tasting treats—and now they’re redoubling their efforts to provide consumers with more options in innovative packaging, and educate them about how the unique products we make can play a role in a happy, balanced lifestyle.
At an evolving digital hub, AlwaysATreat.com, consumers can find an online resource that contains a wealth of information in an easy-to-access format. For example, consumers can:
- Learn more about the ingredients in their chocolate and candy;
- Get answers to frequently asked questions regarding sugar, GMOs and other topics; and
- Explore information related to transparency, portion guidance and choice and consumer education.
At NCA’s 2018 Sweets & Snacks Expo, attendees will see more options for treating; a wider variety of pack sizes; and clearer labeling language on the front of pack, nutrition facts panel and on the ingredients declaration than ever before.
